New York-based co-working giant WeWork on Monday (Aug 7) said it was acquiring Singapore’s Spacemob as part of its US$500 million (S$681 million) push into Southeast Asia and South Korea. This follows a merger between local player JustCo and China’s naked Hub on Jul 18 to form what was claimed to be Asia’s largest co-working operator.

World's biggest co-working space provider WeWork to acquire Singapore-based Spacemob
Mon, 07 Aug 2017 09:33:33 +0800
As part of the effort, WeWork will acquire Spacemob, a Singapore-based co-working startup founded in early 2016 by entrepreneur Turochas "T" Fuad and backed by Vertex Ventures and Alpha JWC Ventures. WeWork declined to disclose the value of the deal.
A seasoned entrepreneur who ventured into the world of startups after working in Silicon Valley, Spacemob is the third business that he’s established.

Fuad’s first startup was WUF Networks, Inc., a convergence software company which Yahoo! acquired in 2005. He went on to take charge of Yahoo!’s mobile division in Southeast Asia before joining Skype as its managing director.

One operator that is hoping to tap on this demand is Spacemob, which recently signed a partnership with property developer Ascendas-Singbridge to open a new 14,000 sq ft office.

Located at Ascent in Singapore Science Park 1, the space is said to provide more than 100 companies with close proximity to key research and tertiary institutions, research and development, high-tech innovation and startup communities for as little as S$350 a month.
